Hi Everyone! It's the first Saturday of the month and that means it is BYOC week-end at The Lilypad. Lynn has three wonderful kits in the collection. I hope you've been shopping. The kits are on sale for 20% off all week-end with an opportunity to save even more with the "buy more, save more" program. You will find that Lynn's kits coordinate seamlessly with all the other designers' kits. Here is a look at her contribution.
As you can see one of the kits is the Here & Now Templates set. I love templates especially when I feel my layouts are all starting to look alike or my mojo is running low. However, sometimes I shy away from using a template a second time because I'm afraid the layouts made with it will look like identical twins.
As I was looking over the CT layouts for this post, I noticed that many of us used one of the templates in the set -- the same template, but they looked so different. Take a look for yourself.
Here is my take on the template. I chose to use one photo with papers clipped to the other possible photo spots and the paint mask. I used a limited palette for the papers and let the stamp and photo bring most of the color.
Here is Sandy's take. She used all the spots for photos and had a lot of color on her version. She tilted the photo a bit and moved the title where an element placeholder was suggested. With so many great photos, she didn't need a lot of elements. GREAT!
Jana's layout used one photo. She recolored some of the paint and clipped papers to others. She placed an element over a stamp. The dark photo gives a different mood to her page. The wood grain paper is a great counterbalance to the busier chevron paper. Fantastic!
Jane used a favorite technique with templates -- she flipped it. She also tucked the photo under the diamond shape. The colorful photo really pops from the more pastel colors of the papers and paint.
I'm impressed with the yoga pose and how the arm leads the eye through the page. Beautiful!
I had to look hard to see if this was the same template with the modifications Donna made to it. That's the fun of templates, isn't it?! I think she kept all the stitching and enlarged the diamond shape, layering everything over the stitching and a single background paper. Very creative!
Our own Lynn used the template, too. She minimized the split look of the background with lots of texture and paints. Even though she used the template very much as is, it doesn't look like a cookie cutter of all the other layouts. I LOVE TEMPLATE! Thanks, Lynn, for a great set!
I hope you've been inspired to use more templates or to try changing them up if you haven't done so before. You can click on each of the layouts to check out all the details in Lynn's gallery. You will find other great layouts in the gallery for more inspiration in using Lynn's Here & Now Papers, Elements and Templates.
Hop over to The Lilypad and take advantage of the sale before the week-end is over. Happy Scrapping!!
